Compressor is really for heavy workloads where you need to render multiple files in multiple iterations. They need to build the goodwill back.Īlso you might not need Compressor since FCPX uses it under the hood already, just with a limited set of options. And Apple is many things but they’re not dumb. If Apple started to nickel and dime video pros again after juuuuust starting to win them back over they’d be dumb. What Apple really wants is to use the software to tempt you into their hardware, which where they make their money. If anything they will make it cheaper over time or bundle it in with something else.
Instead, they are a hardware company that happens to make great software. For one, they are not a software company that happens to make great hardware. This question comes up all the time because many people look at Apple and think “tech company” and assume the worst.Īpple is a very different animal in a lot of ways. This question comes up so often I'm just going to repost what I wrote previously: I personally got in around 2011, so I've already got my money's worth many times over.
So I wouldn't be surprised if the next major update is a free one. Learn Blur-dimension skills by watching tutorial videos about What's New in Final Cut Pro 10.6, The Arturia FX Collection 2 Explored, Creating Titles and 3D Effects, Photoshop For Video Editors, What's New in Final Cut Pro X 10.4.9 and Motion 5.4.6, & more. It should also be noted, that some of the updates to Final Cut since 2011 have been big changes, even though they were free. There is no such major shift in the cards, and now that Apple has already made a version of Final Cut Pro (X) that runs optimised on their new silicon, it seems the current version of Final Cut is here to stay.
That said, though it is a very mature product, none of it's underlying technology is outdated – the original shift to Final Cut Pro X from Final Cut Pro 7 was necessitated by a shift from a 32 bit to a 64 bit software paradigm. Apple makes crazy U-turns and spins with some regularity. There is no real pattern to the release of Final Cut, so nobody here can tell you with any degree of certainty – or even make a very informed guess as to when it will have a major paradigm-shifting update.
